ABOUT

Ori Kaplan is a saxophonist, producer, and founding member of Balkan Beat Box. A former member of Gogol Bordello, his horn hooks have powered Billboard hits like Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” and Fifth Harmony’s “Worth It.” He’s also the founder of Shotnez, a cinematic NYC jazz quartet, where his jazz roots and global sound collide in bold, genre-defying ways.

BALKAN BEAT BOX

Balkan Beat Box is an Israeli-American trio known for their electrifying fusion of Balkan brass, Mediterranean melodies, hip-hop beats, and dub electronics. Formed in the mid-2000s by saxophonist Ori Kaplan, percussionist Tamir Muskat, and vocalist Tomer Yosef, the group emerged from New York City’s underground scene, captivating audiences with their dynamic live performances and genre-defying sound.

SHOTNEZ

Shotnez is a Tel Aviv-based quartet blending jazz with Afrobeat, Ethiopian jazz, 1950s Afro-Cuban rhythms, surf rock, and Eastern Mediterranean folk. Formed by Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat (Balkan Beat Box), along with Uri Kinrot (Boom Pam) and Itamar Ziegler (The Backyard), the band reunited in 2020 for improvisational sessions in a converted carpentry studio. Their album Dose a Nova captures this spontaneous energy, featuring tracks like “Contagious” and “Marhaba” that showcase their diverse musical influences.
